How to create a desktop shortcut for CRM Production

1. Description

Interrelate has deployed Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) as its customer relationship management (CRM) platform in Jan 2019.

Since then, many upgrades have been applied to the D365 platform by Microsoft, one of which has been to change to a new D365 CRM application type which offers increased functionality. As Interrelate has been accessing a less functional D365 CRM application type using a shortcut labelled CRM Live, it is therefore necessary for users to change to a new desktop shortcut which accesses the new D365 CRM application type. To differentiate the old vs the new application type, a different shortcut label - CRM Production - will also be used to access the new D365 CRM application type.

This document outlines the steps to follow to delete the CRM Live desktop shortcut and to create a new CRM Production desktop shortcut to access the upgraded D365 CRM application type in Interrelate’s CRM Production environment.

2. Instructions

2.1 Pre-requisite(s)

  1. Access to a device connected to the Interrelate IT environment.
  2. The latest version of Google Chrome/Firefox/Edge installed on a Windows computer or Apple Safari (version 9 or 10) on Mac or on OSX.
Important Note(s):
  • The instructions contained in this document assume that Google Chrome, Interrelate’s preferred browser as at Nov 2020, has been set up as a user’s default browser so the typical Chrome icon will be displayed in all screenshots.
  • If a non-Chrome browser (eg, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc) has been set up as a user’s default browser, a different icon will be displayed on the user’s desktop.
  • The instructions contained in this document have been written for a Windows context. Please adapt all relevant steps to an Apple Mac computer, as applicable.

2.2 Steps

The process to create a new desktop shortcut to access CRM Production, involves the following 3 categories of steps which have been further expanded below:

This section outlines the steps to delete the obsolete CRM Live desktop shortcut, as follows:
  1. On the computer’s desktop, locate the shortcut labelled CRM Live, as shown below:
  1. Select the CRM Live shortcut then delete it so it no longer appears on the computer desktop.
  2. Once the CRM Live shortcut will have been deleted, proceed to the next section.
Important Note(s):
  • The above instructions have been written in consideration of the fact that users are working away from the office. Once users resume working in the office, it is possible that the CRM Live shortcut gets automatically recreated on the desktop; if this is the case, delete the CRM Live desktop shortcut as it is no longer applicable to Interrelate’s current circumstances.
